Sunglasses Make Us Appear 'Cooler'

They’re the ultimate accessory – sunglasses have been a popular fashion trend since the 1920’s. But why are they popular and besides the obvious practicality of sun protection, what do they offer? New and re-trending sunglasses designs are released every season that complement the look at that time. The answer is they offer something more to the wearer then just a coordinated on-trend look.

Vanessa Brown senior lecturer of Art and Design at Nottingham Trent University in the UK undertook a PhD to determine Why Everyone Looks Better in Sunglasses?

The findings:

  • Instant Symmetry – Sunglasses cover up any asymmetry around your eyes
  • Structure – The addition of glasses emphasises your bone structure
  • Alluring Mystery – Without the ability to make eye contact others aren’t able to make judgements on what you’re thinking or feeling and the wearer feels more anonymous
  • What Wearing them Means – Aviators and Athletes wore them in the early 20th Century and Hollywood Stars from the 50’s onwards - they’re a sign and symbol of glamour

And finally – Brown also admits – they’re great for hiding hang overs!

#Retrending This Winter Season: Plaid
After years of being reserved for punk Plaid is back! This time round Plaid has more refined and intricate colour combinations including fusions of rose red and sky blue. This season's Plaid is a departure from the traditional Burberry pattern that is synonymous with winter.

And Plaid is a favourite this season of OUR favourite Fashionist the Sydney Fashion Blogger.

 Embrace:

  • Plaid scarves and high waisted pencil skirts
  • For an on-trend look pair plaid with dark denim and leather
  • Match plaid with a pop of colour - think lime green!
  • Contrast a heavy plaid jacket with a soft cream knitted jumper or scarf
  • Try a dark blue plaid with a pop of cherry red
.....And if you're daring match plaid and poka dots for a season making look

 Shun:

  • Avoid pleated school girl style skirts
  • Stay away from black and red only duo prints
  • Plaid pattern stretch tights

Plaid is best when it's worn with an air of sophistication - Team with black pointed toe pumps & a birkin style bag and you can not go wrong.
Don't over do it and you'll avoid the 'Christmas' look!

#Trending: Grand, Layered and Embellished Pearls

From the catwalk of Chanel to the cover of Vogue - Grand, Layered and Embellished Pearls are the emerging trend of 2014 - Adorning everything from Dresses & Bags to Shoes & Hair.

This season's trend is a departure from the classic preppy look made famous by Upper East Side resident Charlotte of Sex and the City and while Pearls will always remain a timeless and elegant addition to any outfit, iovich loves these season making looks!

How to Wear Pearls this Season:

Pair a pearl necklaces and layer with chains for a modern take on a classic

Oversized pearls necklaces and stud earrings

Embellished Pearl Cuffs for a statement look

Take style inspiration from Emma Watson's Golden Globe accessories with double sided Mise en Dior Pearl stud

Add a Embellished Broach for a classic Chanel'esk look

Pearl Hair Pins - wear either a singular large Pearl or scattered small pin Pearls throughout an upstyle

And if you have the cash to splash - the Chanel 'Headphone' Necklace - THE look of the trend (let's hope a high street brand jumps on this bandwagon!)

I LOVE NYC

A Louis V handbag, Prada purse, B(l)urberry scarf, Tiffany or Imitation Double C's...

Carrie and Samantha ventured to 'The Valley' for a fake Fendi but in the end Carrie walked away declaring: 'I'd always know!'

Would you carry a fake Fendi?

If you travel to Thailand, Greece or Bali it's easy to get your hands on an imitation on a street corners. You can in Italy too - although you'd risk a hefty fine from the Italian Police if you're caught mid transaction. And when you're in New York City you can find them... if you know where to look... in the right part of China Town (allegedly through fake back shop walls in discount jeweller stores - arh the irony).

And it's even easier on the Internet!

But is beauty in the eye of the beholder or if you wear it are you just fooling yourself? Especially if you can't afford or want to part with your cash for the real deal.....? Does carrying a designer dud reveal more about the ideal image you'd like the world to believe of you or is it a bit of fashion fun?

A recent scientific study suggests that wearing fake designer goods leads to an increase in Unethical Behaviour! Read More.

There's no doubt that High Street fashion brands are influenced by Runway Designers each and every season - that's how trends are born and spread to the masses. So it's logically impossible to avoid imitation to some level and extent.

But when you slap a (fake) brand on it, does it make the article (and potentially the wearer) look cheap and nasty?

Couture Crush: Balmain

Sharp Shoulders Bejewelled Bold Intricate

There is nothing we don't love about this French fashion house and we continue to see it's influence in high street fashion brands.
It's most recent show included monochrome (this trend is set to continue for the forseeable future) houndstooth, denim, cotton candy pink, quilting (Chanel style) and lots of leather!

Lara Bingle for Cotton On Body

Followers of Lara Bingle's social media have known for a while that something was coming in the form of a collaboration with Cotton On Body. And finally it is here - and it's AMAZING!

The collection is classic, contemporary and stylish one pieces as well as bikinis and bandeaus that can be mixed and matched to 'suit'.

The range is true to Bingle's own style and caters to all shapes, sizes and tastes - it's available to shop now on the Cotton On website or from 4th November in store.

And the best part - prices range from only $19.95 - $39.95.

iovich Best Picks

  • Red One Piece - it's daring but classic and reminiscent of Baywatch
  • White K.I.R Bandeau Set - very James Bond'esk. Amazing for anyone with a tanned complexion
  • Leopard Print One Piece - animistic and awesome! This piece will wear well into the next beach season and could easily double as a body suit under a cute skirt or mini shorts
  • Black YOU Triangle Set - the triangle style is big in bikinis this season. This style offers an added bonus of more lift then the traditional string bikinis

The Evil Eye

The Evil Eye - particularly adorned on jewellery but most recently on clothing too is a look that is becoming increasing popular outside of its native Greece and Turkey.

No trip to the Mediterranean is complete without buying and evil eye keyring or bracelet and they're increasing becoming a stylish and original addition to wrists and necklines.

There are some great original and mass produced bracelet pieces available for sale on Esty that include small diamonettes and a variety of blue coloured cord or band. Necklaces look sophisticated and delicate layered with multiple colours of blue and teal eye charms.

The Asymmetric Skirt

The Asymmetric Skirt is BIG this season with so many different materials, colours and lengths to choose from. My preference is definitely for the fitted, more structured style in either faux leather or thick polyester to hold its shape - particularly important to hold the helm line!

The beauty of these little numbers is they can be worn by day with a cute long or short sleeve tee and sandals or at night with a white silk button blouse and heels (think monochrome)!

I love the Asymmetric Skirt for its structured edginess and versatility. These babies will be around for seasons (both summer and winter) to come, particularly the leather variety.

And the colour.....? White if you are wanting a spring sophisticated look, black for a sharp and edgy night time outfit or go bright in either peach, mint or blue for a pop of colour!
